![]() ![]() ![]() I am still in the beginning learning curve on guitar but I ended up with an AXE I/O and for $50 extra got AmpliTube 5 Max. But from this thread it sounds like they sound really good, so, I'll put my anti-corporate bias aside XD I still use HW PODs occasionally, but for the most part I am all tube now (ac30+sovtek stack) and made the switch to hardware before Neural DSP came out, and with all their 'artist edition' packs I can't help but see it as a toontrack-style genre-based marketing thing. In software I feel like ya gotta fudge it a little. Many plugins try to be as accurate as possible on the circuit-level and end up not actually sounding sonically pleasing. They sound accurate and good which is hard to do. POD Farm and LePou plugins have a special place in my heart, and they will all get the job done. they might sound better or worse nowadays. I can't really comment on how they sound now in the new plugin. Which is weird, because they're based on Softube amps, and the Softube amp sims sounded amazing when they were just vintage/metal/bass amp rooms. Idk what kinda guitar they were playing through it or what FX they put before or after for them to say "okay that sounds alright!" because they most certainly do not. Crashed Ableton too many times! No sound is worth that.Ībleton's built-in amp sims are the worst ever. BIAS sounded okay, but the VST was too laggy and buggy for me to really even use it at all. (Hey maybe they gimp the matched cabinet to sell the Pro Cabinet!)Īmplitube sounded kinda sterile to me, had a metal-zone esque fizz last time I tried it. Using the Pro Cabinet and then doing a bit of tweaking, and it sounds passable. Idk why they won't upgrade the cabs to not wound like they're far-miked with a wet blanket over them, but yeah. The amp sims have always been okay, but the matched cabinets have always been the real low point. I have the full version of Guitar Rig and have been using it since v3. Trial the stuff you're interested in and experience the IK method of product installation and judge if you'd tolerate their particular method of handling downloads and updates. If you're after synth sounds there are better options for free that don't charge you to download them again after 6 months have passed. Their instruments I found fairly middling aside from the B3 and Mellotron. IK is a mixed bag, some of their mixing processors are solid, MODO Bass is probably best in class for that particular niche, but MODO Drums has a great set of kicks and snares and absolutely trash cymbals. I also use Helix Native and haven't been left wanting for new guitar or bass sounds since procuring both. If you've got money to burn, a Helix Stomp is a great physical device and covers just about every tone you want before venture into pricier boxes. Alternatively, the Neural stuff is solid, a suite like Nolly would cover a good bit of ground. I'd honestly look at something like AmpHub where you can just sort of pick and choose what amps you want. Amplitube 5 was a pretty marked improvement, still a lot of 10+ year old models in the full version though. ![]()
